You might have heard someone say "break a leg" as a term of endearment to say "good luck."

But unfortunately for Ionia, Michigan native Billy Strings that literally happened before he took the stage at a recent show.

How Did Billy Strings Break His Leg

Billy Strings was performing at John Paul Jones Arena, in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday.

He had just finished his performance and went off stage for a few moments before he planned to come back out for an encore.

But while backstage waiting to come out he grabbed his skateboard and tried to do a back 180 and ended up landing awkwardly and breaking his leg.

A video was posted on Reddit that appears to show Billy Strings immediately after breaking his leg.

In the short video you see the person lying on their back, sitting up and scooting on the floor.

Billy Strings posted on social media a picture of his broken leg.

He also shared more details about his injury including that he could hear his leg break like a 2x4 over the crowds chanting for an encore.

Billy Strings said that he really wanted to continue his tour but after talking it over with his doctors made the difficult decision to reschedule his remaining shows in West Virginia and Indiana.

Breaking a leg sucks, I've done it before ice skating and playing King of the Mountain so hopefully Billy doesn't feel too embarrassed.

Hopefully he will make a quick recovery and Michigan fans can look forward to seeing him in concert later this summer at the Ionia Free Fair on August 28-29
