If you're looking for a place with dim lighting, decorations straight from an antique shop, a pool table in the back, and most importantly cheap drinks, you're in luck. Grand Rapids is full of them aka dive bars.

There isn't an exact definition of a dive bar, but usually, you know one when you see one. Honestly, the more run down the place is the better in my opinion. You know what to expect from a dive bar and that is part of the appeal. So, which are the best in Grand Rapids?

⬇️BEST NEW RESTAURANTS IN WEST MICHIGAN⬇️

The Meanwhile

Known for being a cool dive with a more punk feel, the walls are lined with movie references. The booth seating is well-loved and cozy. It's known for being a "hipster bar', so if you've never been to a dive bar this would be a good entry. Plus, there are pinball machines in the back.

Mulligan's Pub

Mulligan's is one of my favorite places to go because there's a little for everyone. There's a small stage in the back where I've seen some emo shows (wear black and you'll fit right in), but it's separate from the bar/seating area so even if you're not there for the bands the bar is welcoming. Good music, TVs for sports/movies, and is exquisitely decorated. Not for the faint of heart, however.

Anchor Bar

Located on the Westside of Grand Rapids, the Anchor Bar has pretty limited seating and the smallest bathrooms known to man but has a nautical theme and good drinks. Plus it's close to other bars so you're able to bounce to another fairly quickly if your heart desires.

Joey's Tavern

Joey's has great outdoor seating and plenty of TVs for sports. It's a nice spot for chatting and good music. But most importantly, if you're looking for "Advice and Enlightenment", it literally says it on the sign so. If you're looking for a place to chat with friends, head over to Joey's.

The Derby

The Derby is arguably the king of dive bars. Pool tables, wood floors, wood walls (the more wood there is, the better the place). Decent bar food, healthy servings, great decor (Christmas lights <3). Good spot to watch your favorite sports games.
