Michigan Is Home To The Least Visited National Park In America
It's not much of a secret that Michigan is one of the best places in the country to visit if you're a nature lover. Our the Sleeping Bear Dunes to nearly anywhere in the Upper Peninsula, we're spoiled with places and things to do. Going "up north" is just part of living in Michigan.

But when you have all these great options, sometimes something great can go under the radar. That isn't because it's a letdown (in fact, this national park in particular is very unique), but rather it's just not as accessible as others. If you're trying to go off the grid, it doesn't get much further than this.
400 Islands To Choose From
Isle Royale National Park is located at the peak of Michigan's northern border with Canada, an island located in Lake Superior. What makes this national park so unique is also what makes it the most remote park in America: it's a complete wilderness park. This park, which is approximately 50 miles long and 9 miles wide, can only be reached by boat or seaplane.
Much like Mackinac Island, this island is vehicle-free and isolated from the neighboring area. There is limited cell service, a few park rangers, and only a few actual buildings. On Isle Royale, it's only you, wolves, and moose. National Geographic estimates that this park gets less than one percent of the average number of visitors to Yosemite National Park
Wolf-Moose Project
I say this because for over 60 years, this remote island has been largely untouched by humans and many other species. It is believed that the lake froze, and a population of wolves and moose crossed the ice onto the island. When the ice melted, it left them stranded there.

The Wolf-Moose Project has provided researchers with a case study of how nature at its wildest functions, a predator-prey relationship that has been meticulously documented for years.
If you want to experience your wild side, look into camping on Isle Royale. Just make sure you're adhering to its strict guidelines about food regulations.
