Student Drives Prom Date in a Tank But Is That Legal In Michigan?
When students go to prom, they really like to make an entrance and one student drove his date in a military tank, but is that legal to do in the state of Michigan?
Making an Entrance at the Prom
Making an entrance at the prom has escalated over the years from either what vehicle you drive or what you are wearing and how you enter the event's doors.
Back when I was a kid, if one of your parents had a cool hot rod or a fancy car or truck, that would have been one of our choices for arriving at the prom. Sometimes a group of kids will pool their money and rent a limousine to arrive at the prom and nowadays that could be a stretch Hummer or even a limo with a hot tube in the back.
Student Drives Date to Prom in a Military Tank
One Oregon student was pretty creative about how he and his date arrived at the prom. The young man put together a GoFundMe to raise the money to rent a tank that was set up to drive on the road with a driver who was licensed to make a pretty memorable entrance to his prom.
The student that rented the tank was only a junior so he is going to have to go really big next year to top this entrance.
Can You Drive a Military Tank on the Road in Michigan?
Tank ownership is legal in every state and an expensive hobby vehicle to own but can you drive one down a Michigan road?
The first thing to make a tank road ready in Michigan is you have to have the vehicles professionally disarmed and no that doesn't mean you just don't have a shell loaded. The tank must not be able to fire. You have to have the armaments removed to not damage the asphalt. There are rubber tracks that can be put on to not damage the road.
Many tanks are too heavy for Michigan roads but it's not going to matter anyway since you cannot drive a military tank down a Michigan road. Yes, you can own a tank that is a decommissioned military surplus vehicle from the federal government, but you can only title them as an off-road vehicle. So if you want a tank, you can only drive it on private off-road trails.
