There WAS Just One Hot 'N Now Restaurant Left... Until Now

Do you remember going to Hot 'n Now growing up? Or maybe you've seen one of the shut down locations, which are recognizable due to their unique shape. There used to be one near my house, close to the intersection of 28th St. and Eastern Ave.

Vacant for years, it's now a Biggby Coffee.

The only Hot 'n Now currently in operation is in Sturgis, Mich., and its developed a cult following. In 2023, the restaurant got a new, electronic menu board. It auctioned off the old one for a whopping $1,400.

Known for its reasonably priced eats, Hot 'n Now started in Kalamazoo in 1984. The chain grew to eventually more than 150 locations nationwide. In the 90s, Hot 'n Now struggled, and declared bankruptcy in 2004. The chain dwindled down to just the single Sturgis location...

Until now!

Hot 'N Now to Open in Wayland, Mich.

According to Crain's Grand Rapids, Gun Lake Investments and Alpena developer Jeff Konczak have purchased the Hot 'n Now franchise.

They'll start by opening two new restaurants - with one in Wayland!

The Wayland Hot 'n Now will be located on 129th Ave. near the Gun Lake Tribe's government campus. It's set to open in summer 2025, Crain's Grand Rapids reports.

The other Hot 'n Now restaurant will be in Alpena. Both locations will be drive-through only.

According to a press release, the new restaurants will keep Hot 'n Now's beloved, affordable menu, and add some updates.

The plan is to eventually sell franchises to other developers around the country. So this is just the beginning!

Former Hot 'n Nows of Michigan, What Are They Now?

The Michigan-based burger chain operated in nearly 15 states at its prime. Today the only remaining location in operation is in Sturgis, MI.
