Michigan has a lot of great, one-off independent eateries, but what about the spots that are so good they end up expanding past the first restaurant?

Foodie site, Lovefood, sought to find the best local chain restaurant in each state based on genuine user reviews, awards, and accolades, and the first-hand experience of their team.

Which do you think is the best in Michigan? A few come to mind for me - Jet's Pizza, Olga's Kitchen, Buddy's Pizza...

Well, none of those were Lovefood's pick. I'll give you a hint, this joint claims to serve "Michigan's Best Burgers since 1923" and is often praised for having the best olive burgers in the state (check out the full list on that below).

Originally opening as Kewpee Hotel Hamburgers in downtown Flint in 1923, it was taken over by Bill Thomas in the 60s. The chain recently celebrated it's 100th birthday.

According to Halo Burger's website, the chain currently operates five restaurants in Michigan.

Halo Burger claims to have created the world’s first “deluxe” hamburger, with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Now they serve their 100% fresh, never-frozen beef that's been seared on a hot grill with "the works":

...lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard & mayonnaise. This is the burger you used to get in your backyard when your parents had 4th of July parties. It’s big, it’s juicy and it’s topped with hand-cut toppings between a fresh baked bun.

In addition to Halo's famous Olive Burger, you'll also find burgers topped with jalapeños, mushrooms, bacon, and different kinds of cheeses.

The menu also includes chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, and coney dogs. For sides you'll find fries, cheese curds, dino nuggets, tots, and more.

Here's Lovefood's praise for Halo Burger:

Halo Burger is famous for its olive burger – a juicy quarter pounder with sliced green olives, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and cheese. Founded in 1923, it's one of the oldest burger chains in the US, with several locations across Flint. The original Linden Road location is a must-visit, according to those who’ve been.

Who Makes the Best Olive Burgers in Michigan?

The olive burger - it's a Michigan classic. While the traditional olive burger is a beef patty topped with Swiss Cheese, Chopped Green Olives, and Mayonnaise, some restaurants like to mix it up. Where's your favorite spot to grab an olive burger in the Mitten State? The following restaurants are serving up olive burgers that top a lot of Michigander's lists.
