It was purchased by the Zehnder family in the 1950s and transformed into the Bavarian Inn, in honor of Frankenmuth's German heritage. They instituted the authentic Bavarian exterior-stucco walls, woodcarving, flower boxes, and German entrees served by “Bavarian” costumed servers that the restaurant is well-known for.
