A prom after-party in Fruitport Township, Michigan, became unforgettable for tragic reasons after four students were shot and two others were struck by a vehicle.

Many proms end with an after-party, but one gathering at a VFW Hall in Fruitport Township turned into a nightmare for the students attending and the families waiting for them to come home.

According to WOOD-TV, multiple people opened fire outside the VFW Hall shortly before midnight Saturday, leaving four people wounded and hospitalized. Authorities said the gunshot victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Two other attendees were struck by vehicles during the chaos, with one person seriously injured.

A nearby resident told investigators they heard between 30 and 40 gunshots during the incident. Some of the students caught up in the chaos reportedly attend Muskegon Public Schools. Authorities continue to investigate what led to the violence.
