This story is straight out of the plot of Breaking Bad.

Arthur Mondella operates Dell's Maraschino Cherries, one of the country's most successful maraschino cherry processing companies.

His firm was being investigated Tuesday for allegedly illegally dumping chemicals into the water near Dell's Maraschino Cherries processing plant in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, N.Y.

While investigators were there, they noticed a faint smell of marijuana. That prompted them to tell Mondella they were going to get a warrant to investigate a blocked-off section of the building. At that point, Mondella excused himself, went to the bathroom and shot himself in the head. He died shortly after at the hospital from his injuries, WABC-TV reported.

So why did he do that? And where's the Breaking Bad tie-in?

Well, behind that pot-smelling wall was a large marijuana growing operation. Authorities seized about 80 pounds of weed were seized and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, according to WABC-TV.

Mondella apparently knew his weed-growing days were numbered and decided to go out on his own terms. Witnesses say that before shooting himself, he yelled to his sister, who was standing outside the door: "Take care of my kids," WABC-TV reported.
