A former Western Michigan University football player recently announced he's eligible for the NFL draft but has a big problem to deal with and that's assault charges.

Former WMU Football Player La'Darius Jefferson

Originally from Muskegon, Michigan, 23-year-old La'Darius Jefferson played two seasons at Muskegon High School and was once named Michigan High School Football Player of the Year.

La'Darius received a scholarship to play at Michigan State and earned a varsity letter when he rushed 97 times for a total of 280 yards with 4 touchdowns.

La'Darius transferred to WMU after he felt there was too much competition for the running back position at MSU and wanted more playing time feeling that was better for his career in order to possibly enter the NFL Draft in the future.

As a senior at WMU, La'Darius wasn't having his best season with the Broncos but also didn't finish the season with the team. He was suspended indefinitely in October before the Miami game after former head coach Tim Lester announced it was because of an incident that occurred off the field.

Former WMU Football Player Charged With Assault

According to WOOD, Jefferson was charged with assaulting 3 people near the WMU campus.  Jefferson and a woman were riding in a car when three pedestrians were allegedly blocking the road. Court records indicate that Jefferson jumped out of the vehicle and punched one of the men several times then chased him until he got the man on the ground where he kicked and stomped his face while laying defenseless on the ground. Two of the three victims suffered concussions while court documents say Jefferson also shoved a woman who tried to intervene.

Just 5 days after declaring himself eligible for the NFL Draft Jefferson was charged with assault on December 9.
