Multiple produce companies are recalling cucumbers due to possible salmonella contamination.

According to the FDA, 68 people gave gotten sick in a salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers. Eighteen people have been hospitalized.

Cucumbers Recalled Over Salmonella Concerns

On Nov. 27, SunFed Produce, LLC, located in Arizona, recalled all sizes of whole fresh cucumbers sold October 12 - November 26. The FDA shared a list of states in which those cucumbers were sold. While it does not include Michigan at this time, the FDA says,

The cucumbers would have reached consumers through foodservice and retail outlets that may be located in states other than those listed.

Two more businesses have now issued recalls: Baloian Farms of Arizona and Russ Davis Wholesale of Minnesota. Those cucumbers/ products containing cucumbers were sold in Michigan.

All of the recalled products were grown by Agrotato in Sonora, Mexico. Importers sold them to the three companies between October 12 and November 26.

Here are the details on the recalled Baloian Farms and Russ Farms products:

  • Baloian Farms  - All sizes of whole fresh American cucumbers packaged in bulk cardboard containers labeled with the “Pamela” brand, a generic white box with a sticker that provides the grower’s name, “Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.,” or a clear PamPak branded bag of 6 individual cucumbers with the UPC 8 2540107010 6.
  • Russ Davis - Salads and wraps containing cucumbers, sold in clear plastic packages of various sizes marked with a 7-digit lot code preceded by an “X” on the top labeling and a sell by or use by date located on the same label.

What to Do if You Bought Recalled Cucumbers

If you purchased the recalled cucumbers: do not eat them, throw them out or return them to where you bought them. Clean and sanitize any surfaces they touched.

According to the FDASalmonella are a group of bacteria that can cause gastrointestinal illness and fever called Salmonellosis. Illness can be serious or even fatal in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
