Have you been back to a movie theater since the pandemic? I finally went to see the new Mortal Kombat at Rivertown in Grandville but as someone who lives in Kentwood all I can think is FINALLY the one by me is opening again!! Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Celebration North and Studio Park, but sometimes I appreciate the convenience of having a movie theater down the road.

Celebration Cinema announced that their South location will be open again on Thursday after being closed for over a year now. According to Grand Rapids Business Journal,  resuming the South location and Studio C in Okemos will complete the reopening of Celebration's 10 [indoor] theaters since the pandemic.

Celebration South's manager told GRBJ how excited they are to get people back in their theater.

Most of all, we’ve missed the lively energy of moviegoers. This is a community gathering place, and we can’t wait to see friends and neighbors come back through the doors.

If you go to Celebration South you'll also be able to get alcohol as they just got their liquor license extended which also allows more food on the menu.

As far as safety goes they are continuing seat and row spacing and extra cleaning. Masks are optional for fully vaccinated people. Stay updated here.

Movies on deck for this weekend include Those Who Wish Me Dead starring Angelina Jolie, and Spiral -- the latest installment in the 'Saw' series which has both Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. Plus two brand new ones this Friday: Dream Horse and Counter Column.

It's exciting to see most theaters back open especially ahead of Memorial Day weekend where a bunch of new movies will be out.

Celebration Cinema South is located at 1506 Eastport Drive SE in Grand Rapids. See all locations here.
