Cases of Salmonella in Ottawa County Linked to Contaminated Melon
This week the FDA announced they were investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella that may be tied to cut melons.
According to WZZM-13, The Ottawa County Department of Public Health says three cases in Ottawa county have been linked to contaminated melon.
So far, 60 people in five states have been affected, and more than 30 of those are cases are in Michigan.
The FDA is advising the public to not eat recalled fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh-cut fruit medley products containing these products.
During the investigation, officials found that the outbreak could likely be traced to Caito Foods, LLC, who on June 8, 2018, voluntarily recalled their fresh cut melon products.
