A popular Grand Rapids taco franchise is expanding with a new concept!
Las Carnitas El Cuñado Opens in Grand Rapids
The folks behind Tacos El Cuñado are opening a new restaurant breakfast, brunch, an carnitas restaurant this week!
According to the owners Las Carnitas El Cuñado at 315 Burton St SW will open January 6, 2022, at 6a.m. The new restaurant is at the site of the former Burton Heights Pizza.

A spin-off of Tacos El Cunado, the Carnitas brand will focus on breakfast and brunch options. The parent company specialized in lunch and dinner Mexican favorites.
In addition to carnitas made fresh each day, you'll also find barbacoa, birria, pozole (Mexican stew), menudo (Mexican soup),tacos, guacamole and chips, Mexican breakfasts, omelets, and more.
Carnitas El Cunado will be open daily 6a.m. to 3p.m.
What is Carnitas?
If you're not familiar with carnitas, it's a pork dish that means "little meats" in Spanish.
The pork is braised or simmered for several hours with seasonings and lard until it tender, then its shredded. The meat is then roasted to make it crisp.
Carnitas is a dish served on its own with salsa and sides, and carnitas is also used as a filling for tacos, burritos, or enchiladas.
