Boardwalk Subs opened its first location in the Grand Rapids area in 2003. Founder Chris Tallarico hails from Lansing, Mich. An entrepreneur with experience in the restaurant industry and customer service, his goal was to serve quality subs with the freshest of ingredients at a reasonable price.

The slogan of the chain is "Bringing the taste of the East Coast to West Michigan".

Customers are also able to "go rogue" with their order, which means they flip the bread inside out, add a special blend of oil and seasonings, and grill it.
