The technology has been used to solve unsolved cases from years past.

According to WXYZ TV, the Macomb County Sheriff's Department has been investigating the attempted murder of a Macomb Township businessman, Eddie Jawad. A suspect attacked Jawad outside of his home, and it was caught on surveillance video.

The 32-year-old suspect was apprehended after several days, and investigators had to open the toolbox to capture the man. Traffic cameras helped identify a stolen plate attached to the getaway car. When the vehicle was eventually found, a regular plate had been put on the car.

What ultimately sealed the suspect’s fate were a few key details: the scuff marks and brake dust on the vehicle matched what was seen in the surveillance footage. But the most striking evidence was the bird droppings, visible in the video and perfectly matching what officers found on the recovered vehicle.
