I got my absentee ballot in the mail the other day and as I was filling it out, I noticed a few things that I needed to research before filling it out completely.

I thought I was prepared when I sat down to fill out my absentee ballot but once I got about half way through I realized, I need to do a little homework.

There were a lot of positions on the ballot for judges, county positions and school positions and bills that I had not read up on.

So I looked up a ton of candidates and did a bunch of research before making a decision on many of them, and I'm glad I did. There is nothing worse that just voting for someone that you don't know anything about.

There were three bills on the ballot that I knew nothing about and the way they were worded, I definitely had to look them up and learn more before casting my vote.

I live in Newaygo county but I'm not tuned into to all the local stuff with my county, township and town I live in. I really just live there and enjoy all the outdoor stuff with my son. I work long crazy hours so I am never really around for anything local or follow any of my area's news, there just isn't much going on.

After filling out my ballot and wrapping up my research, I realized, I am going to have to pay a bit more attention to what is going on locally before the next election in two years.

I'm confident that my ballot was filled out correctly and I'm able to track it, plus I even took pictures of everything including the post mark when I took it to the post office. I'm absolutely confident my vote will count.

If you are voting absentee, get them in the mail as soon as possible.
