Hold on to your hats (literally) because strong winds are expected to blow through Michigan this weekend. Winds so strong that it's also known as a "bomb cyclone" which is what happens when central pressure drops by 24 millibars in 24 hours (Wikipedia). It's not as scary as it sounds but basically, be prepared for winds possibly reaching up to 50 mph.

The National Weather Service out of Grand Rapids has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Kent County beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday and lasting into the night. Not only is it supposed to be windy but we're also expected to get a mix of rain and snow throughout the day.

WESTERLY WINDS COULD GUST OVER 60 MPH. BLOWING SNOW COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO NEAR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO 3 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE.

We're more likely to get about an inch of snow in Grand Rapids, however, the winds are expected to knock out power lines causing widespread outages.

The wind is supposed to die down by Monday's commute back to work.
