91 Dogs Flown to Michigan For Chance at Life and Love on Valentine’s Day

Ninety-one dogs from the West Coast were welcomed to Michigan shelters on Valentine's Day.

The Detroit Free Press reports that after a six-hour flight from Fresno, California,  an airplane full of pups arrived at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti on Thursday, February 14.

Volunteers were there to welcome the dogs to the Mitten State and help transport them to local animal rescues.

The nonprofit group Wings of Rescue performed the flight, with additional funding from GreaterGood.org.

Ric Browde, president of Wings of Rescue, told the Detroit Free Press,

"These dogs, if they didn't go to Michigan, a lot of them would be dead by this weekend."

Browde explained there is a small dog overpopulation problem in California shelters, and a demand for small dogs in the Detroit area; Many of the dogs are Chihuahuas or Chihuahua mixes.

The dogs could be ready for adoption as soon as next week.
