6 Dogs Thrown From Vehicle, 1 Survives in Allegan County
Police are searching for a couple who allegedly through six chihuahuas from a moving minivan near Shelbyville in Allegan County.
Only one of the dogs survived. She has been named Lucky Lulu.
Wood TV 8 reports the incident occurred around 4:30p.m. on January 29th in the 400 block of 124th Avenue. According to witnesses, the dogs were thrown from a Honda Odyssey headed west on 124th. The witnesses were headed east when they saw what happened and turned around.
They found Lulu alive and the rest of the dogs deceased. The witnesses say they buried the 5 Chihuahuas in their yard. They took Lulu to a Pet Klips, a Wayland pet groomer who also runs a rescue. The groomer convinced the witnesses to contact police. Police say they don't know why they the witnesses waited so long to report what happened, but are cooperating now.
Lulu appears to be OK physically, but rescuers say she will need lots of loving care. They say they've received multiple adoption applications for Lulu and are working to find her the best home.
As of earlier this week, Allegan County Police said they were working to verify the witnesses story, recovering the bodies of the deceased dogs and searching for other witnesses.
Allegan County Undersheriff Mike Larsen told Wood TV 8,
It’s alleged that one of the dogs made contact with another moving vehicle. We’re trying to figure out who that would be and get them to come forward as well."
The suspects in the minivan are described as one male and one female. The male, who was reportedly driving, is described as a thin white man in his 20’s to 30’s with missing teeth and dark, curly hair. The female passenger is described as a thin white woman in her 20’s to 30’s with missing teeth and blonde hair.
