You’ve Unwrapped Your Gifts But What Do You Do With The Trash?
Opening gifts on Christmas is such a joy, but what do you do with all the trash afterward? Find out here.
The Joy of Opening Christmas Gifts
For me, opening Christmas gifts has never gotten old. I do admit, as a child, there was a bit more anticipation about gifts under the tree and how many days were there before Christmas, but as an adult, I find more joy in making others happy for the holidays.
There is nothing like seeing the joy on the face of a child when they are truly surprised when they open their gift.
Probably my favorite gift to receive or give is one where the person giving the gift remembered a little thing that most people didn't pay any attention to, but was something that meant a lot to the person receiving it.
No matter if the gifts are sentimental or not, there is a lot of trash to deal with after the presents are opened on Christmas day, so what do you do with it all?
What To Do With Your Holiday Trash?
Not everything can be put in a bag and thrown out in the trash.
Maybe you got a new computer and want to throw away your old one? Hang on a second, old electronics and appliances are some of the worst things for our environment so they need to be disposed of properly.
According to WOOD, many electronics contain valuable materials like copper, silver, and gold, but also hazardous material like lead and mercury that needs proper disposal. So drop any old electronics or appliances at a local facility that can properly dispose of or even recycle them.
A lot of your holiday trash can still be placed in the correct recycling bin like paper and cardboard, glass, hard plastics, metal cans, foil, etc. Stuff like packaging that has styrofoam, plastic film, and bubble wrap must be dropped off at specialty locations.
Unfortunately, Christmas trees and wreaths cannot be recycled but there are plenty of farms with goats who will gladly accept them. If not, there will be drop-off days that will occur right after the holidays.
Any rechargeable types of batteries will need to be dropped off here.
There is a lot of cooking that can go on over the holidays and that old oil is recyclable and can be turned into biofuel and will need to be dropped off here.
