The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids posted a warning/reminder for Lake Michigan this weekend.

Even though temperatures this weekend are forecasted for the mid to upper 80’s the NWS reminds you that the lake is definitely NOT as warm as the air temperatures.

Their post warns that lake temperatures are only in the upper 40’s and lower 50’s which being that cold can cause shock to your body if you go in very deep.

They also give an alarming fact that 20% of people who fall into cold water die within the first minute of being in the water due to cold water shock.

The NWS, along with the Coast Guard, are suggesting limiting your exposure to the cold water and if you’re on or in the water, that you have a life jacket on, so you don’t accidentally drown.
