World Cup Halftime Show Butchers Michigan On World Map

After nearly a month and a half, the FIFA World Cup hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico has come to an end. It was a World Cup that brought people from all over the world to experience North America for the first time, and brought us great moments involving ranch dressing, the Tartan Army of Scotland's "invasion" of Boston, and Norway's instantly iconic "Viking celebration."

It all culminated in a top-2 matchup between Argentina, the defending World Champions from 2022, and Spain, a team on a 37-match unbeaten streak. While the game itself was something to be desired, it was also the first World Cup Final to feature a Halftime Show similar to a Super Bowl; if the US is hosting a sports event, they're going all out.

While many soccer/football loyalists weren't too pleased about a halftime show disrupting the tradition of "the beautiful game", Michiganders have a totally different reason to be irked by the event...and it happened in the first 10 seconds.

The show begins with a view of the Earth from space before zooming in on MetLife Stadium, where the game was played. However, as the camera soars toward Earth, you get a view of Michigan and the Great Lakes, and something is...off.

Originally, I thought this strange duplication of Michigan and the apparent addition of a new Great Lake to the north was just a video frame glitch as it zoomed in, but the oddity is consistent throughout the globe scene. It also just entirely erases a chunk of Ontario; basically, it's a mess in this region of the world.

It's a pretty wild oversight made by the creators of the segment, whether people just forgot what The Mitten State looks like, or it is some goofy AI blasphemy. It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, so it's possible the producers just didn't think anyone would notice and left it in.

Unfortunately for them, I noticed. In fact, I noticed this more than I noticed Messi on the field for much of that match (Sorry, GOAT).
