City of Walker Issues Warning Against Voting Scams
Every election cycle, people are subjected to an ungodly amount of political advertising that makes them want to pull their hair out. Their mailboxes are full of junk that will quickly end up in the trash, and plenty of spam mail floods their inboxes.
Above all else, political text messages seem to be the most abundant. However, some of these messages may not be real political messages but are actually scams in disguise. These scams have gotten so bad that the City of Walker has made a public service announcement warning the public to watch out for them.

Political Texts
Whether it be from a candidate you like or dislike, political texts can get annoying after a while. In 2022, Americans reportedly received an average of 50 political messages per device, a number that is sure to be beaten this year. That also means there are plenty of scammers out there trying to capitalize on the election season messages, like here in West Michigan.
The Walker City Clerk's office has been receiving multiple reports of people getting text messages that are not coming from the State of Michigan, Kent County, or the City of Walker, which include a link to a website that looks like an official site.

However, the Clerk's office is warning users not to click the link and block the number. If the Clerk's office needs to reach someone they will use "a phone call, email, and a physical letter sent in the mail." If you want to lower the number of political messages you're receiving, try these tips.
