You ever stumble across something and think, "How have I lived in West Michigan my whole life and never heard of this?"

That's how I am feeling about a massive terrain U.S. map that exists at a local park! Did you know about it??

A few years ago I discovered the outline of Michigan that's carved into the earth Up North. It's a sight to see on Google Maps! Similarly the topographical U.S. map at Hager Park in Jenison, Mich. is pretty cool looking as well:

Hager Park is located at 1834 28th Ave. in Ottawa County. The 104 acre park has tons of features like picnic areas, nature trails, and a mature hardwood forest known for it's gorgeous spring wildflowers.

A highlight at Hager Park is the Age of Discovery playground that overlooks the gigantic terrain map of the United States. Raised berms and gravel outlines mark state boundaries and features like mountain ranges and rivers. This'll probably be your only chance to walk across the entire country from coast to coast, so I'd say it's worth a visit!

According to some reviews I've read online, it can be a little difficult to spot from the ground.

I'd look for the above plaque to help point it out.

As far as how long the map has been there or  who built it, I'm in the dark! I've searched and haven't found much info at all online about the U.S. map at Hagar Park. Do you know the story behind it?
