Is Trunk or Treat Replacing Trick or Treat in Grand Rapids?
One of the best nights of the year is Halloween night, where, as a kid, you're allowed to stay out late, dress up in costumes, and get loads of candy that you hope will last you until next year, but in reality will last maybe two weeks. The phrase "Trick or Treat!" is easily one of the most well-known in the English vernacular (don't quote me on that).

But a growing trend that really skyrocketed in popularity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic is the Trunk or Treat, which cuts out the need to go door to door through a neighborhood and instead lets you go to a big parking lot, go to a car trunk, and get tons of candy.
It doesn't have the same pomp and circumstance as going through the neighborhood, but it is an excellent alternative for areas with few houses in a central location. So as these trunk-or-treats rise in popularity, what do people in Grand Rapids plan to do for Halloween this year?

To get an idea of what locals are doing this year, I posted on both the WGRD Facebook page and the r/grandrapids subreddit to gather input on how people are feeling about this new form of candy collection leading up to the spookiest night of the year. The top comment on Reddit, with 114 upvotes, was a negative reaction:
"The concept of trunk or treating over trick or treating makes me feel sad and old"
But generally, those who are attending a trunk-or-treat plan to do both trunking and door-to-door. The general sentiment was that trick-or-treating is still preferred on the 31st, but people are more than happy to attend trunk-or-treats throughout the month for some extra candy and fun.
But one person thinks that trunk or treat is a "lame alternative", and I personally agree. However, from a convenience standpoint, trunk-or-treat definitely gets some points from me. What do you think? Let us know on Facebook.
