Those headed to Traverse City for a summertime getaway are good to hit up the beaches again.

MLive reports that after a sewage spill Saturday, West Grand Traverse Bay beaches are back open.

An estimated 3,000 gallons of untreated sewage leaked out of a 12 inch sewer drain near the West end of Traverse City Saturday afternoon.

The health department issued a statement asking people not to get in the water at area beaches.

The reason drinking water was not affected is because it comes from the East Bay.

Now that the affected waters meet the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality standards for E.coli, the advisory has been lifted.
