The First Playstation is 20 Years Old Today [Video]
It's crazy to think that 20 years ago today, the original Playstation made it's North American debut.
Holy crap...20 years.
Playstation made it's debut on September 9, 1995. Some of the games that came out with the console were Rayman, Battle Arena Toshinden, Ridge Racer, Warhawk, and a few others. Pretty much a game in every genre!
I remember looking at Ridge Racer as a kid and thinking that the future is here, the game looked so realistic!
Or not, video games this day look way more realistic.
However, when the the Playstation hit store shelves, I wasn't instantly impressed. I was more excited for the Nintendo 64 and that cool analog stick on the controller. My brother was more into the Playstation, and he ultimately got one.
I guess I didn't really try the system until I played Final Fantasy 7, which many people flocked to the Playstation when Final Fantasy 7 hit the console. Even though I didn't have any previous experience with Final Fantasy prior to 7, it was that game that got me onto the Playstation, and it may do it again.
Some really notable games that were Playstation games:
- Resident Evil 1, 2, 3
- Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9
- Crash Bandicoot
- Silent Hill
- Twisted Metal
- Metal Gear Solid
- Tekken
- Darkstalkers
- etc.
There are a TON of amazing PSX games, it's just crazy to think that the Playstation is 20 years old! Like Sega did, they had quite 'cool dude' marketing campaign.
