There is no question that we love our pets. Sure, we love to debate whether we are a dog or cat person. When it comes to our four-legged family members, we love them and do everything we can to make sure they are happy.

So dog or cat person argument aside, there are a lot of pets across Michigan that could use your love. That's why the Bissell pet foundation announced that they want to help empty overcrowding shelters across America by helping them offer $25 adoption fees from now until May 8th.

There are 45 participating shelters in Michigan, so there is likely a purrrfect fit for you nearby. But, I went ahead and found some of my favorite four legged friends that you will be able to adopt this week as a part of this wonderful life-saving promotion.

Martin is such a cute friendly boy! He's been hanging out at the Kent County Animal Shelter for awhile, and is looking for a family to call his own. He's an American Staffordshire Terrier Mix who just recently turned 5 years old. He's neutered, and ready to come home with you. If you'd like to learn more about adopting Martin, you can visit his page on petfinder. you can also see the other animals available for adoption at the Kent County Animal Shelter here.

If you squint your eyes, you can probably see how Squidward got his name. But don't let that boopable nose full you, this adorable boy is ready to come home and snuggle with you. He's a year old, and already knows the recipe for Krabby Patties, so he's basically the perfect fit for you.

Lucky, Ionia County Animal Shelter

Lucky is a brindle/white 7 year old Pit Terrier Mix, and his smile will make you smile! He's neutered, and according to the shelter he grew up with other dogs but does have some issues with resource guarding. Older children would be best to live with Lucky due to this. He would love a nice quiet home to hang out in!
If you want to Adopt Lucky, you can visit his page on petfinder or call to set up an appointment at 616-527-9040. you can also see the other animals available for adoption at the Ionia County Animal Shelter here.

Babka, Ingraham County Animal Control

According to his current friends at Ingham County Animal Control, Babka is a happy go lucky senior ball of fluff! He's a 10 year old chow/husky mix who has the independent streak from both breeds. He's had other dog friends, and slow safe intros with cats are recommended. He should be fine with older kids who understand that he needs his space and probably doesn't want to be used as a pillow.

You can visit Babka's page on the Ingham County Animal Shelter website here, and find other wonderful friends to adopt on their website well.

Sangria, Al Van Humane Society

According to the Humane Society of West Michigan, Kimmy Gibbler is more like the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt than Kimmy Gibbler of Full House. She's been through so much in her two years of life--but she never lets anything get her down. Kimmy has had a rough past, and has the scars to show it, but despite all she's been through, Kimmy still has so much love to give! This little lady is a cuddle-bug wiggle-butt, LOVES people, and so darned sweet!

you can visit her page on their website or, you can also see the other animals available for adoption at Humane Society of West Michigan here.

This cutie loves cookies, but he's anything but a monster. According to Michigan Humane Society, Cookie Monster can be a little timid in new places, and likes to take his time meeting new people. Once he is comfortable he is a total social butterfly that loves to be as close to you as possible. He is still young and very active and playful. Please provide him with plenty of playtime, exercise, and mental enrichment to keep him happy and healthy.

You can visit his adoption page here. You can also see the other animals available for adoption at the Michigan Humane Society here.

Spotzie, Shiawassee Humane Society

So good luck if you're looking to find the perfect friend to bring home furever this week. Don't forget to take time and check with the shelter to make sure any pet you're interested in adopting is still available, and would make a good fit for your home. Wishing you happy tails!
