Since 2009, ArtPrize has become a staple of the arts movement in Grand Rapids. Every year it attracts artists and art enthusiasts from all over the country. However, some in GR have had enough of the art competition.

ArtPrize kicks off on September 16 and runs until October 3. Artists from all over the world are finding themselves in Grand Rapids setting up for the competition. Let's meet one...

Scientists in the U.K. worked with a music producer and created a bunch of music that simulates the driving sounds that put kids to sleep. It doesn't sound much like a car though. The driving sounds are subtle, and mixed in with&quot;white, pink, and brown noise...

Wow, it's hard to believe that we are getting ready to kick off ArtPrize 8 in less that a week! (Preview week kicked off on Wednesday, August 14th, but the official start of ArtPrize will be next Wednesday, September 21st.) I have been to each and every ArtPrize. One of the things I've learned over the years is there is always more to art than meets the eye.

ArtPrize today announced a brand new grant program for 2016. ArtPrize Featured Public Projects will grant $55,000 directly to artists, ranging from $10,000 to $15,000 per project. The grants will be given to artists for entries at four ArtPrize venues: Vandenberg (Calder) Plaza, Ah-Nab-Awen Park, Grand River and Gillett Bridge.

There's a good chance you've never heard of the song &quot;Amen, Brother&quot; from the band The Winstons, a b-side released in 1969. But there's a very good chance that you've heard what is referred to as the &quot;Amen, Brother&quot; break, a six-second drum solo that appeared in the middle of the song.
