The Stryker Corporation has been linked to Kalamazoo for more than 85 years. It began in 1940 when Dr. Homer Stryker founded it as the Orthopedic Frame Company.

Stryker's global headquarters moved from Kalamazoo to Portage in 2023 but has facilities around the world. The company has maintained a strong presence throughout the Kalamazoo/Portage area with multiple manufacturing and administrative sites in the region.

According to FOX17, Stryker’s global headquarters closed on Wednesday to respond to a cyberattack, which an Iranian-linked hacker group called Handala claimed responsibility for.

FOX17 reported that a sign that was posted on the front door of the headquarters in Portage read:

"Stryker is currently experiencing a Global Systems Issues. As a precaution, we are closing the 1941 facility for the day. Please stay off the network and refrain from using your computer and connecting to Wi-Fi on phones until systems are restored. For work phones it's recommended to remove the Stryker Management profile."

Stryker sent out a press release on March 11, 2026 stating that we experienced a cybersecurity attack which resulted in a global disruption to Stryker's Microsoft environment.
