Many people called in this morning to alert me to the fact there was a strange rainbow over the sun this morning. But technically, would that be a a "snowbow"? Nope. The phenomenon is called something else.

The colors of the rainbow appeared over a surprising sunrise this morning (surprising because there was NO sun in the forecast today).

But since it's not rain, shouldn't be referred to as a "snowbow"?

Officially, ultraviolet rays showing their colors in the winter months is a phenomenon known as a "sun dog", but others have allowed for it to be called a "snowbow".

It doesn't matter what you call it, it was a welcome sight after a weird week of lake effect snow and arctic cold. I just wish my camera did it justice.
