A pair of reports from the grand reopening of Paris' Le Bataclan music venue Saturday (Nov. 12) raised a few eyebrows. One report surfaced that Bataclan co-director Jules Frutos turned away Eagles of Death Metal's Jesse Hughes from attending the performance featuring Sting, while a second report from Eagles of Death Metal's management denied that the incident in question happened.

The venue had Sting headlining the first show back after the horrific terrorist attack that took place during the Eagles of Death Metal performance last year. In the aftermath of the attack, singer Jesse Hughes made comments in an interview insinuating that six security guards who called in sick on Nov. 13 may have had a reason. After officials at Le Bataclan called the comments "grave and defamatory," the singer issued an apology, but later added to the conspiracy talk in another interview. After the interview, two French festivals removed the band from their lineups and apparently all is not forgiven with Le Bataclan officials either.

In Frutos' initial comments about Eagles of Death Metal, he told AFP, "They came, I threw them out -- there are things you can't forgive," later adding, "He makes these incredibly false declarations every two months. It is madness, accusing our security of being complicit with the terrorists. Enough. Zero. This has to stop.”

However, in a statement released to Billboard, Marc Pollack of the MGMT Company, stated that Hughes "never even tried entering the club for Sting's show." “This day is not about Jesse Hughes or Eagles of Death Metal," revealed Pollack. "In fact, Jesse is in Paris to share in remembering the tragic events of a year ago with his friends, family and fans. This is about recalling the tragic loss of life that happened right in front of his eyes during his show, and this coward Jules Frutos feels the need to soil his own club’s reopening by spreading false tales to the press, and tainting a wonderful opportunity that could’ve been used to spread peace and love, to further spread mean spirited words of hate. Jesse never even tried entering the club for Sting’s show tonight.”

According to Billboard, Hughes was definitely in Paris at the invitation of the city's mayor to commemorate the one-year anniversary with a plaque dedication and other events planned for Sunday (Nov. 13). However, the singer was reportedly in the area to take in the scene and talk to gathered fans while reflecting on the events of the attack.
