UPDATE: Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect, Jason Kohlhoff, and police during the standoff. No one was injured. The standoff ended around 2a.m. Wednesday moring when Kolhoff surrendered. He is now facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting at Michigan State Police during the nearly 15-hour standoff, Wood TV 8 reports. 

 

There is currently a large police presence in rural Van Buren County, about 8 miles east of South Haven.

Wood TV 8 reports that police have surrounded a house in the 3400 block of County Road 681, involved in a standoff with an armed man.

According to police, the man made threats against an Allegan county elected official.

When police came to the residence to investigate, the suspect emerged with a firearm. He fired the gun into the ground and then barricaded himself inside the home. It is not believed anyone is inside with him.

Police have blocked off the 3000 block of County Road 681, north of County Road 388/Phoenix Street.
