Right now, Pokémon is everywhere. Whether you grew up collecting Pokémon cards, watched the TV show each Saturday morning, or today you're just trying to make your kids happy because they're super into it, this current boom of Pokémon cards has even surpassed the original 90s "Pokemania".

Now in its 30th year, Pokémon is having a major moment right now. Which is great news if you're a fan, but it has also made finding and buying cards scarce. Trading card frenzy has led to multiple burglaries at card shops across the country, including a $20,000 card theft here in Grand Rapids.

While there are always the big-box stores, these tend to be people's first choice and are frequently sold out, so we're highlighting local businesses instead. Don't be like those guys stealing things: here are some reliable places around Grand Rapids to get your Pokémon fix.

Legends Sports & Games - Grand Rapids

Legends Sports & Games has been open since 1988 and has been selling Pokémon cards longer than anyone. They sell booster boxes, trainer boxes, individual cards, other Pokémon merchandise, and also host weekly tournaments inside a massive 10,000 sq ft event space in the back of the shop (making it one of the largest card shops in the country). Legends Sports & Games is a place to open your packs and put them to the test against other Pokémon trainers.

Galactic Toys - Kentwood, Walker, Grand Haven

With three locations around West Michigan, Galactic Toys has positioned itself as the place to buy, sell, or trade any trading card you're looking for. Online or in-store, GT offers Pokémon cards from around the world. They also have other Pokémon memorabilia as well.

The Gaming Warehouse - Grandville

Since it opened in Grandville in 2010, The Gaming Warehouse has been a staple in Grand Rapids for pre-owned video games, board games, and trading cards. I used to frequent TGW in Gaines Township for all my Magic: The Gathering cards, and these days, they still have all kinds of trading cards, including Pokémon cards.

All Star Sports - Wyoming

Despite its name, All Star Sports covers more than just sports. All Star Sports sells a variety of Pokémon cards and booster boxes, as well as offering pre-orders on new releases.

Goldmine Comics - 10 Locations Around West Michigan

Goldmie Comics is all over West Michigan, so its claim as "Grand Rapids' Premier Trading Card Store" is well-founded. GC is known primarily for Magic: The Gathering, so while it does not sell individual Pokémon cards, it does sell sealed products like booster boxes, booster packs, and Elite Trainer Boxes.

Devil May Duel - Downtown Grand Rapids

A new trading card shop on S. Division Ave, Devil May Duel, buys and trades Pokémon cards, and recently hosted a pre-release party. The store sells Pokémon singles, so if you're looking for one card in particular, DMD is worth a stop.

Trading Cards Conventions, Events, and Facebook Groups

For those among us who are extra committed, there are meetups and trading card conventions every weekend around the state (including locally!) for people looking to buy, sell, or trade their Pokémon cards.

Prices at these events can vary, so sometimes trading directly with people on Facebook is the best way to get deals or that one card you've been looking for.
