As we here in Grand Rapids get wet from an almost spring like rain, winter will rear its ugly head in the Northern reaches of our state.

A system the National Weather Service is calling 'complex' will barrel through the state today and early tomorrow, leaving us drenched with mostly rain, but leaving the Upper Peninsula coated with a wet, heavy snow.

The NWS Marquette branch is calling for 8-12 inches of snow to fall between the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula south to Marquette. Most of that snow will be driven by the lake effect as they get pummeled by 40-50 mph winds.

Meanwhile, in the Northern Lower Peninsula, 2-3 inches of wet snow is forecast for the Mackinaw City area over to Alpena.

Here in Grand Rapids, we could see periods of wet snow, but nothing serious in the way of accumulations. The good news for all of the state is the spring temperatures on the way for the weekend, with sunny skies in Grand Rapids, with a high of close to 60 on Sunday.
