Beloved East Hills Ice Cream Parlor Is Back Open in Grand Rapids
Like most people, I love ice cream. When the seasonal ice cream shops start reopening around West Michigan, it officially feels like summer to me. That's why every year I put together a guide to when the local spots are opening back up for the season.

And for the last few years, I kept checking to see if The Parlor at Cherry Hill Market in Grand Rapids was coming back.
There never seemed to be much information out there.
Well, this explains why.

The longtime East Hills ice cream spot closed back in 2021, but now The Parlor is officially back open again, giving Grand Rapids another solid option for summer ice cream runs. According to a Reddit thread I found, it actually did open up last summer but I missed it! Sounds like lots of folks missed it and were glad to have it back.
Located next to Cherry Hill Market at 717 Cherry St. SE, The Parlor was known for its exposed brick walls, worn hardwood floors, rustic furniture, and cozy neighborhood feel.
The building itself dates back to the 1880s and has a long history in the East Hills neighborhood. It originally housed a market on the first floor with apartments above.
According to Crain's Grand Rapids, former owner Eric Marcellus bought the struggling property in 2000 and spent years restoring it, eventually adding the ice cream parlor as part of a larger neighborhood gathering space.
After operating for around a decade, the ice cream shop eventually closed in 2021. Marcellus went on to sell the market and parlor to new owner Amish Chhabra in 2024.
Now, the scoops are flowing again!
A grand reopening is happening Friday, May 29 at Cherry Hill Market in the East Hills district from 5 to 10 p.m.
