One of Grand Rapid’s Best Early Morning Spots is Staying Out Late This Weekend

West Michigan is a food mecca, and we have no shortage of amazing early morning spots. From greasy spoon to bougie brunch, whatever your palette craves there is a perfect answer.

And one of my favorite little known secrets is tucked away on Wealthy Street right across from Yesterdog, and if you haven't given them a shot you're missing out.

Basalt started as a pop up in the Fulton Street Market, and grew it's cult following until they were able to take over their current space in April of 2021.

According to their website, "Taquero, and native Texan, Steven Martinez-Thiel founded Basalt with a desire to bring breakfast tacos and Tex-Mex culture to the state he fell in love with over a decade ago.

Basalt brings an elevated yet approachable brunch experience to West Michigan, combining the depth of flavor found in Tex-Mex cuisine with a focus on locally sourced ingredients, craft food, and unbeatable hospitality that Michiganders are known for."

Nearly one year after they opened their permanent location, their business is growing. If you haven't joined the cult yet, you're missing out. My favorite item is the heights, which is the ultimate breakfast sandwich. Think of a supercharged bacon, egg and cheese sandwich topped with garlic mayo and a tomato jam so good that it will change your life.

But if you're not much of an early bird, this weekend you have your chance to stay out late and enjoy their Tex-Mex offerings with a party atmosphere.

Basalt will be offering a special limited menu of Late Night Street Food at The Sovengard, Friday, January 28th from 11pm - 1am. They will also be offering cocktails, a live DJ for a good vibe, and of course no cover. So, bring your munchie money and get ready for a good time.

While the menu isn't out, based on my absolute adoration of Steven's breakfast and brunch offerings, I can promise you this will be an experience you don't want to miss.
