Playas Nayaritas is now open at 1285 28th St. SW in Wyoming. This is the first Michigan location; there are two Playas Nayaritas restaurants in the Chicago area.

The new restaurant says they serve "The original Nayarit seafood flavor and the best cocktails."

What is Nayarit-style Seafood?

I was curious about Nayarit seafood, so I did some digging. The cuisine originates from Nayarit, in west-central Mexico.

According to History.com,

Nayarit’s farmers benefit from its location in a fertile valley, and with 181 miles of coastline, the state is a top tourist destination. Tourism and other service industries account for about 24 percent of the state’s economy. Agriculture also supports the economy, with tobacco, sugarcane and tropical fruits being among the chief crops. Small factories manufacture tequila, leather goods, textiles and wooden products.

With its nearly 200 miles of coastline, the region is also known for its seafood, such as tuna, marlin, shark, sailfish, mahi-mahi, snook, snapper, red snapper, Pacific sierra, and shrimp.

As far as how it's prepared, according to Mexconnect.com, barbecued fish, shrimp soup, and fish cooked over a manglar wood fire are some of the region's specialties. It's also known for its chiles:

Nayarit offers a wonderful chile sauce called Salsa Huichol. This sauce is made from a variety of chiles, spices, vinegar and salt and is sold in bottles under different names. Akin to tabasco sauce, it has a much better flavor.

The new restaurant on 28th St. offers different types of ceviche, which is raw fish or shrimp marinated in lime juice.

For appetizers, Playas Nayaritas also serves fried calamari, fresh raw oysters, tostadas, and quesadillas.

They have many different soups, like Caldo Playas, which includes shrimp, crab legs, clams, scallops, fried Serrano peppers, and fish.

For fish, you'll find salmon, Huachinango- which is a red snapper dish, and tilapia. Playas Nayaritas also serves seafood pasta dishes, fajitas, crab legs, octopus, prawns, shrimp, and whole lobster. There are platters too that include multiple items.

Check out the full menu here! They even have a spice ranking so you know if what you're getting falls into the spicy, very spicy, or EXTREMELY spicy category.
