Popular Grand Rapids Coffee Spot + Restaurant Opening New Location in Rockford
Looking for a new spot for coffee and a bite? A Grand Rapids restaurant is expanding soon with a new location in Rockford.

Owner Matthew Fuller started the business as a coffee cart called Grace Coffee in 2012. Over time, they started catering and in 2016 rebranded to Mudpenny. Currently there are two Mudpenny restaurants: one in Grand Rapids' Roosevelt Park neighborhood and in Ada.

Both eateries offer coffee-centric dining experiences, plus breakfast, brunch, and lunch, including vegan and vegetarian options.
Some stand-outs on the Grand Rapids' menu for me include Cinnamon Roll pancakes, a Monte Cristo made with French Toast, and the Hot Honey and Pimento Chicken Sandwich.
The Ada location serves cocktails and dinner as well. There are plenty of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrees like steak, roasted chicken, and salmon. Mudpenny opened its own coffee roastery in 2023. The next big thing for Mudpenny? A new location in Rockford!

A new Mudpenny restaurant is planned for Rockford at Hotel Rose. It does seem like a good fit as the first thing I want when I wake up at a hotel is a good cup of coffee! According to Fox 17, construction is ongoing and the new hotel will also include a yoga studio, medical spa, and an additional restaurant.

With space for about 100 guests, Mudpenny will be on the ground floor, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Fuller tells Fox 17 that a full-service coffee bar will be at the entrance.
It's expected that construction on Hotel Rose will be completed in July, with Mudpenny and the other businesses opening in early fall.
