A mother and baby from Battle Creek have been found safely after their boat ran out of gas and drifted down the Grand River.

WZZM-13 reports that Anthony Hough, his wife Matthia Alves-Veronja, and their 7-month-old baby ran out of gas around 4:30 p.m. Saturday on the Grand River between Allendale Township and Georgetown Township.

Hough pulled to shore and anchored the boat, so he could go find gas.

When he returned, the boat containing his wife and child was gone.

Hough walked for several miles looking for them, and then stopped at a home to call 911.

Helicopters, boats and Aeromed were all involved in the search.

Around midnight, the mother and child were found unharmed. The boat had drifted to an island near 68th Avenue.
