The Acrisure Amphitheater is a $184 million concert venue with a 12,000‑person capacity on the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids. The ground breaking took place in May of 2024, and is set to open for its first show on Friday, May 15, 2026, featuring Lionel Ritchie.

Looking at the rendered map and the surrounding area of the Acrisure Amphitheater, there appear to be several spots where people could potentially enjoy a free show. These include the Grand Riverwalk, nearby bridges, the shoreline across the Grand River, and even from the water itself by boat or kayak.

According to FOX 17, the city of Grand Rapids has specific rules regarding access to the Grand River. Boats and kayaks are prohibited on the river between the Sixth Street Bridge and the Fourth Street Dam, but this section does not include the stretch of river next to the Acrisure Amphitheater.

There will be personnel from the Grand Rapids Fire Department around the river when there's an event happening, according to FOX 17. But not just because of the potential of there being kayakers or boaters near the amphitheater.

A representative from the GRFD told FOX 17 reporter Matt Witkos that members of the specialized water rescue team will be there

to ensure our guests and our citizens stay safe in the river, near the river, outside of the river in that area
