If you've ever found one of these bizarre looking shells in any of West Michigan's rivers it may be a remnant of the once booming pearl button industry.
At only 1,500 feet long this river in northern Michigan is considered to be the shortest in the state. Conversely, the Grand River is the longest at 252 miles.
