Iconic Michigan Slang and Phrases

Every state has its own slang and expressions, and Michigan is no exception. The Michigan Way to Say Goodbye: Bye or M'Bye?

A debate recently popped up on the Michigan subreddit over a very important question: Do Michiganders say “bye” or “m’bye”? Here’s what locals had to say.

I have heard women say ‘m’bye,’ but I don't recall any men saying it. I've heard both men and women say ‘Ope!

Apparently, those who do say ‘m’bye’ don't realize they even do it.

Sounds like m'bye is becoming a Midwestern goodbye and not just in Michigan.

The majority of posters say they use ‘m’bye’ instead of ‘bye,’ but mainly when talking on the phone.

I am going to stick with "Later" when I say goodbye whether it's on the phone or in person.
