Party City Bankruptcy
Back in January 2023, Party City filed for bankruptcy citing the COVID-19 pandemic and changing consumer behavior as reasons for bankruptcy amid struggling profits. However, in a surprising twist, the company successfully exited bankruptcy and was able to keep most of its locations open. However, the key word there is most.
As part of its bankruptcy agreement, the Party City announced it would be closing underperforming locations to save some cash. Overall, the company will be closing only 36 of its nearly 800 locations around the country.

What Michigan Locations Will Close?
According to Finance Buzz, four store locations throughout Michigan will close, but nearly two dozen remain open.
- Holland: Felch Street Shopping Center, 3050 Beeline Road, Suite 20
- Fort Gratiot: 4047 24th Ave.
- Benton Harbor: Fairplain Plaza, 1040 Fairplain Drive
- Jackson: Jackson Crossing, 1510 N. West Ave.
My home Party City, the location on 28th St., survived the cuts and I couldn't be happier. It's pretty impressive that Party City was able to come out of this entire endeavor largely unscathed.
However, not all businesses are so lucky. Take a look at what happened to all the old Family Video locations throughout Michigan.
