
Michigan Man Arrested For Allegedly Selling Counterfeit Airbags
A Michigan man has been arrested for allegedly selling counterfeit airbags through a bogus online store. Agents seized $600,000 from his bank accounts.

Airbags seem like a great idea. I have not been in an accident where one has deployed, but if I get into an accident, I want that airbag to do its job.
Since I grew up in the airbag generation, I've noticed plenty of recalls throughout the years. Automakers are quick to replace the faulty airbags for drivers' safety, but if companies of that size can get a bad product, so can you if you are buying online from an unfamiliar source.

Michigan Man Arraigned for Allegedly Selling Counterfeit Airbags Online
According to the Michigan Department of Attorney General, 31-year-old Dinas Kamaitis from New Baltimore was arrested and arraigned for allegedly selling counterfeit airbags on eBay.
If convicted, Kamaitis could be looking at serious time in prison. He was charged with 9 felonies. 1 for using a computer to commit a crime, 4 counts of delivery/possession of counterfeit property, and 4 counts of selling counterfeit supplemental restraint systems. Kamatis could get up to nearly 50 years in prison.
The Michigan Attorney General's office estimates there are over 80,000 vehicles that have been installed with counterfeit airbags. The office also mentioned in their press release that 80% of counterfeit airbags involved in a wreck don't deploy.

Agents seized $600,000 from Kamaitis' bank accounts. His next day in court will be on April 10, 2025.
