Michigan Hosting Free ORV Weekends in June and August
If it's summer in Michigan it means it's time to get outdoors. Off-road enthusiasts and those looking to try off-roading for the first time can hit the road without an ORV license or trail permit for two weekends in Michigan this summer.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced the first Free ORV Weekend is June 10 - 11. The second free weekend is August 19 - 20.
Over both weekends, residents and out-of-state visitors may ride DNR-designated routes and trails without a license or permit. That includes 3,660 miles of off-road trails, plus Michigan's five scramble areas: St. Helen’s Motorsport Area, Black Lake Scramble Area, Silver Lake State Park, Bull Gap and The Mounds.
ORV rules and laws still apply:
- Operators under age 16 must have a valid safety training certificate. ORV/ATV education certifications issued by other states and provinces are also accepted.
- U.S. Department of Transportation-approved crash helmets and protective eyewear are required.
