Remote Work At Risk Under New Anticorruption Bill, Experts Say
The only good thing to come out of the pandemic was that many workers gained the ability to work remotely. If the anticorruption bill gets passed it would ban remote work.
What is the Anticorruption of Public Morals Act HB 4938?
There is a bill the House of Representatives is looking to pass called the Anticorruption of Public Morals Act HB 4938. The purpose of the bill is to prohibit the distribution of certain material on the internet that corrupts the public morals and prescribe penalties. The bill includes civil sanctions, regulate commercial entities, provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities, create funds, and to provide for the distribution of money from certain funds.
There's a lot to unpack with this proposed bill which you can read in its entirety by clicking here.

Essentially, the bill is to prohibit the distribution of "real, animated, digitally generated, written, or auditory" depictions of sexual acts (porn). While the idea and name sound nice, the bill includes mandates that would prevent people from working at home.
Workers Brace For Remote Work Changes In New Bill Proposal Passes
A Reddit poster who works in IT noticed something in the Anticorruption of Public Morals Act, that if you work remotely from home using a corporate VPN, and the bill passes, your daily tools could become illegal contraband making modern business in Michigan impossible.
Below are what some of the Michigan Reddit posters had to say about VPNs going away:
I use a VPN with my job and that would make portions of my work obsolete.
Nearly everyone in the company I work for uses a VPN since we have offices all over the United States.
I doubt that hospitals have the available employees to start charting paperwork by hands again.

There are several Michiganders who brought up some amazing points you see now on the Michigan Reddit Page post.
