Michigan Public Market Competing to be the Best in the Nation
Exploring a public market is one of the best ways to get a sense of a city’s personality and culture. Vibrant stalls overflowing with fresh produce, artisanal creations, and ready-to-eat meals create a lively atmosphere, while historic buildings often provide a glimpse into the area’s past.
One such community hub in Michigan is once again competing in a national contest.

It scored No. 7 in USA Today and 10Best's "Best Public Market" readers' poll. Can we get it to No. 1 in 2026?
The spot up for the honor is Detroit's Eastern Market, a city landmark with more than 130 years of history. It has been selected as one of twenty finalists by a panel of experts, now it's up to a public vote to determine the country's best public market.

The market is a bustling destination year-round. Saturdays attract up to 40,000 visitors who browse more than 225 vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to specialty meats and handmade goods.
In the summer months, Tuesday and Sunday markets feature additional offerings, including local art, live music, and free fitness classes like yoga and Zumba. Plus, there's a holiday market in November and December.
