Money Magazine routinely releases "Money's Best" lists showcasing the best you can get in categories like Mortgage Lenders and Home Equity Loans. This time, the magazine has released a list of the 50 best places to live in the U.S., covering large and small places. The Midwest has 9 cities on the list of 50, with Michigan having the most with 3 cities on the list. The cities highlighted on the list are Kalamazoo, Ferndale, and Detroit.

Kalamazoo

Sporting a population of 72,873, Money highlights Kzoo's "eclectic, quirky vibe that appeals to college kids and families in equal measure". I tend to find myself in Kalamazoo for art vendors, and Kalamazoo's art scene is what Money highlights. Places like Glass Art Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo Institute of Art are noteworthy areas to showcase where Kzoo gets its quirkiness. Money also mentions the Kalamazoo Nature Center for families to visit on a nice day.

Ferndale

The smallest city on this list, Ferndale's 18,969 are small but mighty. Ferndale is slightly northwest of Detroit and is known for its colorful streets that host the state's largest LGBTQ+ event in the state. Walking around Ferndale you really just get a grasp that people genuinely enjoy being there. Woodward Avenue is home to all kinds of shops, restaurants, and bars. Money mentions the Rust Belt Market, Vogue Vintage shop, and Found Sound records.

Detroit

I was surprised to see Detroit on this list because, as Money mentions, it was a "symbol of urban decay" back in 2013. But anyone who has really been following the city will know that it has been on a major comeback. The city has introduced programs to make living in the city easier than ever and has some incredible projects in the works that will continue to introduce and revitalize various parts of the city.
